Gotta admit: I hate BP a little less already
I don’t buy gas at Exxon because of the Exxon Valdez spill and I don’t buy it from Citgo because I heard Hugo Chavez owns all of them. I never bought from BP much before and have made a point to avoid them ever since the April 20th spill.
BP is the latest in a long list of Corporations Americans have come to loathe for pursuing profits at their expense. Yesterday, BP countered this sentiment with a reported $50 Million ad campaign.
After watching the ad I think BP might actually get it now. I mean, they know everyone is furious over the spill and will find any hint of BP not paying unacceptable.
The ad features BP CEO Tony Hayward speaking directly to the audience, empathizing with them and assuring them BP accepts full responsibility. He even promsises to “make this right.” Of course, he also goes into the a bit of the logistics of the clean up that include big impressive numbers.
This is very different from the early days of the spill when Hayward tried to shift the blame over to Deepwater Horizon and BP lawyers attempted to buy waivers from Gulf Coast fishermen for $5k each.
I’m glad to see he’s talking the talk. Time will tell about the walk.
